During the 1999 to 2007 restoration of the Castle of Simancas, in Valladolid, Spain, the archive of all documents related to the conquest of the Indies and the Philippines, a philologist stumbled upon a manuscript. It was written by one the conquistadores of Mexico, Alvaro Rodriguez, who joined Hernan Cortes expedition in Cuba. Seeing no interest to publish the work, the philologist updates the manuscript to contemporary Spanish, conserving the original names and the elegance of style from the 1500's. Written to the Spanish King Carlos V, (Charles V), The Conquistador Rodriguez chronicles his experiences during the first years of the adventure. But, most important, his friendship, visits and conversations with the Aztec emperor, Cuauhtemoc. How the monarch saw the conflict, witnesses the destruction of his city, his culture and ensuing events which resulted in a new country-Mexico."
